Invited Artists 2011
Kanturk Arts Festival has invited four artists to exhibit at its 'Invited Artists Exhibition' in 2011.
As in previous years there is a focus on local artists. However, one from a little further afield has also been invited to work in the town and perhaps display it to us in a new way at the exhibition.
Kanturk Arts Festival wishes to thank these artists for their participation and we are happy to provide a platform for their work.
Bríd Moynahan
Having initially worked as a painter through much of college she began experimenting in the area of Print and found that this new media provided her with a better drawing quality for her work. She has been involved in many group shows at home and abroad and is developing a studio at her home in Newmarket. Her work is narrative and semi-autobiographical, and revolves around people interacting with each other, animals or their environment. She often deals with the theme of childhood experiences and a coming of age. She shows a particular interest in childhood innocence and how this innocence can become compromised. Brid’s more recent work is progressing towards a more domestic theme. Though the narrative remains strong throughout, it has become more ambiguous as to allow the viewer to reach their own conclusions. Bríd gets her inspiration from fairytales and hopes to achieve a fairytale and surreal quality in her prints.

Joseph Heffernan
Joseph grew up in Boherbue, near Kanturk, where he attended national school and the Comprehensive School. Having been keenly interested in art and in particular in painting from a young age he attended Art and Design classes at Colaiste Stiofain Naoife, Cork before moving on to study Fine Art at the Crawford College of Art and Design. Since graduating in 2009 he has been living and practicing in Cork city where he has exhibited at the Lavitt Gallery and Couch Gallery. His work currently deals with processing daily feelings thoughts and anxieties through children’s iconography particularly popular children’s imagery such as Disney cartoons. In this way things become simplified and as such trivialised making them seem more manageable. See more at www.heffernanart.ie
