‘Kanturk – a Portrait’An Exhibition of Photographs by Tom Daly in Sólás Art Gallery |
With an interest in design and inherited craft, particularly in the areas of metalworking and engineering, Tom Daly took some pictures of craftsmen he used to visit in Kanturk in the mid-1980s. The three colour prints exhibited – reproduced from deteriorating transparencies – are from that time. When ‘Place’ was selected as the theme for the inaugural Kanturk Arts Festival he decided to take up the camera again and purchased a digital camera in the summer of 2008. In line with the festival theme and the pictures from the mid-80s, the selection exhibited here is an exploration of the diversity of people and life in Kanturk, undertake with the generous cooperation of the subjects. This was his first venture in exhibiting photographs. |
